With this piece I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Paint flames with watercolor paints and then calligraphy the word “Rise” in a bold, dramatic style.
When I showed it to Kerry, however, he told me it looked like a rose. He generously added that it did rather look like the clouds that billow up from around a fire. Regardless, I love the juxtaposition and have several more “Rise” pieces I’d like to create, all with different backgrounds. And from my etsy shop the blurb I wrote to go along with it: ” “Rise” evokes the strength we all have when facing adversity. Out of the flames we rise, stronger than before.” A bit hokey, but it conveyed the emotion I was going for. Enjoy!
