Calligraphy

Friday, Thursday and Wednesday.

I’ve been challenging myself to improve my calligraphy skills. If you follow me on Pinterest you’ll notice I pin a lot of calligraphy art. I want to be that good. I want to be able to create masterpieces with a few letters and flourishes.

So I’ve been practicing. Meet “Friday”:

I tried out glamour glow on this one. Jury is still out.

There are actually quite a few zendoodle elements in this one. It seems that I can’t resist. I really like my loops, there are fewer areas which just don’t quite conform to the loopy look I’m going for.

Now meet “Thursday”, which I created on a Wednesday. You’ll find out why this is important to remember later:

Gothic-inspired, gloriously swashbuckl-y.

I’m drooling looking at this. Not really, because that’d be gross, but I love this look. I’ll probably do this font for other pieces. I kind of used this for one of my very first pieces:

Gaaaaah the photography. I know I have a ways to go right now but lookat how far I've come!

Ok. Meet “Wednesday”, which was created on a Thursday, and then almost trashed because it started looking funny in the way letters/words do when you look at them too long:

My flourishes make me happy.
My flourishes make me happy.

You’ll notice I don’t always center precisely. That’s on purpose, I actually don’t like things that are perfectly centered. It bothers me. I like to have my center slightly up, if that makes sense.

All of these pieces-except for “Nostalgia”, that was sold awhile ago-are available in my etsy shop, wordsremember. 5×7, $15+$1.95 shipping. I’m thinking they would look smashing in an off-white frame or a black one with personality. If you don’t want to mess with etsy (they require a sign-in) send me an email at wordsandwares@gmail.com. I have Paypal and we can go that route.

I’ve been using this paper for calligraphy. Seems to work out just fine.

This ink is reliable and looks black, which is good since it’s supposed to be black.

I decided to try this brand of gold marker because it’s archival quality. I don’t want my stuff deteriorating any more than the greats do.

I find that the C-3 nib size works extremely well with the styles here. Highly recommend trying them out.
