Weekend! Pizza! Fun things! Yyyyesssssss!
Ok, so this week we’ve been working really hard on not eating All The Things. Himself has to lose a few pounds for his job and I said I’d help by joining in, I’ve got about five pounds that I don’t really need, so this will be awesome. So we’ve cut out most of the processed foods (we didn’t have many to begin with) and we’ve upped the workouts a bit. We’ve done well.
But Not Eating All The Things is not awesome. If you’ve ever had to drop a few pounds you’ll know this.
We actually wouldn’t be doing this at all if the weight loss wasn’t a required thing; I’m an Eating Disorder survivor and I avoid anything that looks like a “diet”. I try not to use the word “fat”, no food item is forbidden, I preach moderation in all things, I never, ever go for a long run if I feel that I need to somehow “earn” a certain food. I will not go back to that, it’s not worth it.
Anyway, my introduction has gotten wordy, let’s move on, shall we?
It’s NOT the calories: This isn’t a recent article, in fact I think it’s several years old. I tend to agree with the author, having spent years recording what I ate and what the scale did in response. And I attained my leanest, healthiest physique ever while following a high-protein diet. I still try to get more protein than is typically recommended, although that got really expensive so I’ve been incorporating more potatoes, beans and rice.
Aging is B.S.: This article is a bit harsh in tone but I found it inspiring. Yes, we all will get old, but that doesn’t mean you have to slow down or suddenly become sedentary (I recognize that some medical conditions do warrant slowing down, I’m not talking about those circumstances). My grandparents (who are in their 80s) have never stopped and just recently toured China. My grandfather recently took up running again. I want to be like them when I grow up.
How to Practice Calligraphy: If you want to receive amazing tutorials on all things calligraphy you should be following The Postman’s Knock. I try (My How I Do series) but she’s good. And spot-on; if it isn’t fun, who in their right mind would want to slave over their penmanship? I’ve been practicing the Spencerian font but I have to mix it up with my beloved Gothic fonts or I lose my mojo.
When A Great Blog Title is Pointless: I’m not going to lie, I frequently think about ways to grow blog traffic. We both strongly feel, however, that to institute all the recommended practices would be to betray who we are, so we’re always trying to maintain a balance. We’re blog-centric; I’ve got the Wordsremember Shop and pages on commissioning info but they’re not front-and-center, they’re situated quite nicely to the side. And even as we grow our business, and institute some of the business ideas we’ve been working on, we’ll remain blog-centered, because both of us like to tell stories and feel that stories are the thing.
What I need you to say … The shooting in Charleston. I’ll let this writer say what needs to be said, and I’ll do my best to listen, to pray, and to somehow help.
And I have to go. My youngest has learned how to take off his diaper. ‘Nough said.
