On clarifying goals

I finally took a day off. The kids were with grandparents, the house was quiet, and we both checked out. Himself played Star Wars, I re-read LOTR. And of course, it being the New Year, we talked goals and the changes we needed to make to keep on trudging towards those goals.

Mine are much the same, I’ve mentioned them before:

  • Assemble the most awesome art booth EVER.
  • Reach 300 sales on Etsy.
  • Take another art class so I continue to grow as an artist.
  • Figure out what I want to do when I grow up.

The last point is the one I’ve been focusing on. Etsy is wonderful, it’s a very well-done umbrella, but I’m not seeing a ton of progress. I’ve redone photos, reworded listings and SEO tags, and I will continue to add listings to see if I just needed more items to be found (my goal is to have around 250). And I’m giving it another year.

At the end of the year, if I don’t see progress, I think I’ll go ahead and migrate my entire store onto shopify on my website. I haven’t done this before because Etsy cuts down on the marketing a seller needs to do, but if I’m not getting a ton of traffic I might as well streamline everything and sell from my own shop.

And I don’t want to be counting on online sales. I really want my own booth, and to travel ’round the country participating in fairs. This is what I feel most drawn to. Basically, it’s what I want to be when I grow up.

So I’ll be trying to focus on doing more research, creating more art, getting better, fine-tuning my visual display. And I think it’ll be awesome.

Art on, friends!
