“Vibrant Flowers”, 8×10 Calligraphy

I (Rebecca!) absolutely love the complicated designs found in some of the older, illuminated pages. I started playing around with designs and this was what I came up with:After putting the design down on paper and adding some color to the designs I discovered it was an incredibly bright piece (all the white!). I love the end result, though, and so I kept it as is. I did create a new piece, similar concept, and gave it a green wash. I’ll share that one later to spare you from all the awesome.
The quotation is from Ralph Waldo Emerson and is, as far as I can tell, in the public domain (I read a blog post by an artist who thought herself limited when she discovered she had to stay in the public domain.
